Document Raises Questions about What Toyota Knew Regarding Accelerator Issue

Submitted by jeremy on February 24, 2010 – 9:46 pmNo Comment

February 22, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ An internal Toyota tells how the automaker saved more than $100 million by negotiating with US federal regulators to stop an investigation into accelerator complaints in exchange for a product recall in September 2007, the AP reports.

The document adds to the question of whether Toyota ignored complaints of acceleration problems. Toyota president Akio Toyoda is expected to field questions about the document when he testifies Wednesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Toyota US sales sank 16% in January, and the value of its stock has lost 19% over the last month.
