Bombardier Blasts Boeing, Airbus Over Protectionism Charge

February 4, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ The CEO of Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier has taken Boeing and Airbus to task over what he calls “protectionism” and anti-competitive practices to stymie his company’s new CSeries plane.

Pierre Beaudoin told The Canadian Press that Boeing and Airbus want to require Bombardier to comply with the “Country Home Rule,” which would prevent the Canadian government from financing planes sold to U.S. or European buyers.

The Export-Import Bank of the United States does not finance Boeing aircraft sold to European customers, just as European export credit agencies do the same for Airbus aircraft destined for US buyers. However, the Canadian market, as Beaudoin points out, dwarfs the economies of Europe and the US.
