ON Semiconductor Moves to New Level of Cost-Effective, Precision Analog with CAT8900 Family of High-Accuracy Voltage Reference ICs

August 13th, 2009, by pur, in IC/Chip/SoC, Measurement & Instrumentation, Research

The CAT8900 family combines very high initial accuracy, low supply current consumption and a stable temperature coefficient, to enable precision performance in test equipment and portable, battery-powered data acquisition systems. The CAT8900 ICs provide a highly accurate voltage reference, with initial accuracy as high as 0.02 percent [± 0.5 millivolts (mV)] and a stable, 20 parts per million per degrees Celsius (ppm/ºC) temperature coefficient, while maintaining a low maximum supply current consumption of 800 nanoamperes (nA). The low current consumption allows the CAT8900 voltage references to remain powered on continuously, with minimal battery load. The CAT8900 family offers nine voltage reference choices: 1.024 volts (V), 1.200 V, 1.250 V, 1.800 V, 2.048 V, 2.500 V, 2.600 V, 3.000 V and 3.300 V. Custom voltages are available on request. Press Release:

ON Semiconductor Moves to New Level of Precision Analog with Ultra-Low-Power, High-Accuracy Analog Voltage Reference ICs

CAT8900 devices offer accuracy as high as 0.02 percent with low, 800 nA maximum supply current for precision performance in test equipment and portable systems

ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), a leading global supplier of high performance, energy efficient, silicon solutions has moved to a new level of cost-effective, precision analog with its new CAT8900 family of high-accuracy voltage reference integrated circuits (ICs).

The low power consumption, combined with the very high initial accuracy and temperature stability of the devices, makes them ideal replacements for power-hungry, higher cost bandgap references in a wide range of portable applications. These include handheld medical devices, high resolution A/D (analog-to-digital) and D/A (digital-to-analog) converters, and precision regulator systems.

The CAT8900 family offers nine voltage reference choices: 1.024 volts (V), 1.200 V, 1.250 V, 1.800 V, 2.048 V, 2.500 V, 2.600 V, 3.000 V and 3.300 V. Custom voltages are available on request. Each reference is available in four accuracy grades: ±0.5 mV, ±1.0 mV, ±2.5 mV and ±5.0 mV. The devices source or sink up to 10 milliamps (mA) of load current with as little as 50 mV of dropout. In most applications they do not require an output bypass capacitor.

Packaging and Pricing
The CAT8900 precision voltage references come in a Pb-free, RoHS-compliant, 3-lead SOT-23 package. The per unit prices for quantities of 10,000 are: $0.60 USD for ±5.0 mV initial accuracy versions; $0.92 USD for ±2.5 mV initial accuracy versions; $1.55 USD for ±1.0 mV initial accuracy versions ; and $2.44 USD for ±0.5 mV initial accuracy versions. Samples are available now. Projected lead-time for production quantities is currently eight to 12 weeks after receipt of order (ARO).
